National Park Foundation Celebrates Grand Opening of Pullman National Monument Visitor Center and State Historic Site Grounds

Pullman National Monument, located in Chicago, Illinois, will officially open its visitor center doors and state historic site grounds on Labor Day weekend, September 4 and 5, 2021. The celebratory weekend will feature tours, interpretive programming, and a host of events and activities organized by a variety of partners throughout the Pullman neighborhood.

Rail Traffic for August and the Week Ending August 28, 2021

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending August 28, 2021, as well as volumes for August 2021. U.S. railroads originated 934,762 carloads in August 2021, up 4.1 percent, or 36,815 carloads, from August 2020. U.S. railroads also originated 1,085,345 containers and trailers in August 2021, down 3.3 percent, or 37,603 units, from the same month last year.

Major Additions to Metro-North Railroad Service Begin

MTA Metro-North Railroad train service increases today with new timetables that return weekend service to full pre-pandemic levels and add 102 trains each weekday, bringing the railroad to 82% of weekday pre-pandemic levels. Direct weekday service between Grand Central and Wassaic and Grand Central and New Canaan resumes, as will ferry service between Haverstraw and Ossining and between Newburgh and Beacon on the Hudson Line.
