Rail Traffic for the Week Ending August 21, 2021
For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 501,273 carloads and intermodal units, down 2.6 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending August 21 were 230,754 carloads, up 0.4 percent compared with the same week in 2020, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 270,519 containers and trailers, down 5.1 percent compared to 2020.

Chesapeake & Indiana Donates Locomotive to Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum
The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum has announced that the Chesapeake & Indiana Railroad has donated locomotive SD9 no. 818 to the museum. The locomotive is a welcome addition to its growing fleet of historic equipment. It is currently operational and will remain in service, hauling freight until it is ready for delivery to the museum.

Metro-North Railroad to Implement Major Service Increase Just Before Labor Day
Metro-North Railroad today announced major service increases coming to the railroad just ahead of Labor Day, with service increasing to 82% of pre-pandemic levels and weekend service returning to full pre-pandemic levels. The service increases take effect beginning Sunday, August 29.
