Statement From STB Chairman Martin J. Oberman on Pending Railroad Mergers
The Surface Transportation Board has received a “notice of intent” regarding a proposed transaction that would place Canadian Pacific Railway Company and the Kansas City Southern Railway Company, both of which are Class I railroads, under common control. Under the Board’s statutes and regulations, this proposed transaction would be classified as “Major” and would be the first major transaction to seek Board approval in more than two decades.

MTA New York City Transit Made Significant Subway Speed Improvements During Pandemic
MTA New York City Transit today unveiled a series of encouraging updates about the success of its ongoing efforts to safely speed up trains throughout the system, including the installation of 919 new digital timers on grade time signals, 270 civil speed increases across the system over the past two years, and a reduction in time trains spend holding at station platforms.

CG Railway Launches New Rail Ferry
CG Railway (CGR) announced the launch of the first of two new rail ferries. Part of a joint venture between subsidiaries of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) and SEACOR Holdings Inc., CGR operates a U.S. Class III freight railroad transporting approximately 10,000 annual carloads of diversified commodities across the Gulf of Mexico.
