MBTA Spring 2021 Commuter Rail Schedules Take Effect April 5
The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the agency’s operating partner for Commuter Rail, are reminding customers of the upcoming schedule changes across the network that will better meet the evolving needs of passengers. The Spring 2021 schedule, which is available online at MBTA.com, takes effect on Monday, April 5 and reflects the direction for regional rail service outlined last month to the MBTA’s Fiscal and Management Control Board.

MTA Chairman Foye Appears on Jumbotron at Yankee Stadium Welcoming Fans Back on Opening Day
MTA Chairman and CEO Patrick Foye appeared on the jumbotron at Yankee Stadium during the New York Yankees home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays today, welcoming fans back to the ballpark and reminding them that the best way to get to the game – and around the city – is using mass transit. The MTA provides robust service options to all Yankees home games on subways, buses, paratransit and Metro-North Railroad.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending March 27, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 27, 2021. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 521,731 carloads and intermodal units, up 16.1 percent compared with the same week last year.

VIRGINIA ANNOUNCES $3.7 BILLION INVESTMENT ON RAIL NETWORK
Gov. Ralph Northam announced the Commonwealth has finalized agreements with Amtrak, CSX, and Virginia Railway Express, launching a $3.7 billion investment to expand and improve passenger, commuter, and freight rail in Virginia and create a vital connection in America’s national rail network between the Northeast and Southeast corridors.

CN and Watco Reach Agreement on Sale of Rail Lines in Northern Ontario, Wisconsin, and Michigan
CN and Watco are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement for the sale of non-core lines and assets on the Soo subdivision (approximately 250 miles of track) that runs from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Oba, Ontario and approximately 650 miles of branch lines of Wisconsin Central Ltd. in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Colebrookdale Railroad Announces The Acquisition Of Two Steam Locomotives
The Colebrookdale Railroad, located in Boyertown, Pa. has announced that it has acquired two steam locomotives, Grand Trunk Western – Class J-3-a Pacific No. 5030 and Lake Superior & Ishpeming class SC-4 2-8-0 No. 18.

SEPTA to Stop Accepting Paper Tickets on Regional Rail Effective April 2
With the SEPTA Key Card Travel Wallet available for Regional Rail, SEPTA will no longer accept paper tickets on Regional Rail trains or at the turnstiles at the Center City Regional Rail stations on Friday, April 2. SEPTA announced in October that the Authority would begin to phase out the use of paper tickets with the launch of the SEPTA Key Card Travel Wallet for Regional Rail in July 2020.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending March 20, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 20, 2021. Comparisons of the current week with the same week in 2020 are inflated because of the widespread economy-wide shutdowns — and subsequent large reduction in rail volumes — last year at this time. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 513,325 carloads and intermodal units, up 11.6 percent compared with the same week last year.
