Amtrak and Vermont Celebrate Restoration of Amtrak Trains with One Dollar Tickets

To celebrate Amtrak and Vermont Agency of Transportation’s (VTRANS) previous announcement of the restoration of its Vermont train service, customers can take advantage of $1 fares are being offered for travel within Vermont on its first day of service, Monday, July 19 when using the promo code V102 or via Amtrak.com/Vermont. Celebratory events will also kick off with local dignitaries on the same day at 7:30 a.m. at the Rutland Station for the return of the Ethan Allen Express and at 8:30 a.m. at the St. Albans Station for the return of The Vermonter. In addition, customers can save 50% on future summer travel plans when booking now through Thursday, July 15 for travel between Monday, July 19 and Monday, September 6 to select locations throughout New England on either train. Operation Lifesaver of Vermont will also be providing short presentations on rail safety at each event.

“VTrans is thrilled to be welcoming back its Amtrak trains on July 19th and looks forward to celebrating their return with celebratory events at every Amtrak train station in Vermont,” said Amtrak Grants Program Manager for the Vermont Agency of Transportation and State Coordinator of Operation Lifesaver of Vermont Toni Clithero.

Customers are also encouraged to purchase tickets via the Amtrak app, which also provides further information and the ability to book, board, check train status and access information from the convenience and safety of a mobile device. Amtrak encourages boarding with eTickets, which conductors scan from the app.

Rutland Mayor and Operation Lifesaver of Vermont Board Member David Allaire and Vice-Chair of the House Transportation Committee, Representative Butch Shaw, will be speaking at the Rutland event. Congressman Peter Welch, Amtrak Vice President, State Supported Services Ray Lang, VTrans’ Secretary Joe Flynn, St. Albans’ Mayor Tim Smith and Village of Essex Junction Board of Trustees President Andrew Brown, among others, will be speaking at the St. Albans event.

The celebratory events begin 45 minutes before the trains are scheduled to arrive at all stations. VTrans will also be providing return shuttle service in advance of these events. Seating is limited and is being offered on a first come, first served basis. Reserve your seat now here.
