Rail Traffic for the Week Ending October 9, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending October 9, 2021. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 506,642 carloads and intermodal units, down 2.6 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending October 9 were 239,821 carloads, up 4 percent compared with the same week in 2020, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 266,821 containers and trailers, down 7.8 percent compared to 2020.

611 Concludes 2021 Season
The Virginia Museum of Transportation, Inc. and Strasburg Rail Road Company announce the conclusion of scheduled 2021 operations for the former Norfolk and Western Class J #611. Appearing at the Strasburg Rail Road for the second time since 2019, the engine drew thousands of visitors and rail fans from near and far.

Rail Traffic for September and the Week Ending October 2, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending October 2, 2021, as well as volumes for September 2021. U.S. railroads originated 1,167,682 carloads in September 2021, up 4.3 percent, or 47,858 carloads, from September 2020. U.S. railroads also originated 1,328,527 containers and trailers in September 2021, down 6.7 percent, or 95,317 units, from the same month last year. Combined U.S. carload and intermodal originations in September 2021 were 2,496,209, down 1.9 percent, or 47,459 carloads and intermodal units from September 2020.

Senator Schumer Cites Concerns Over CSX Bridge Safety.
Citing concerns about the safety of the CSX Rail Bridge located just south of Blue Point between Highland and Milton (along the River Subdivision) in Ulster County, New York, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer called on the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to conduct an independent safety inspection of the Blue Point Railroad Bridge located on the CSX freight line.

Governor Hochul Announces Completion of Port Jervis Metro-North Railroad Station Transformation
New York Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the completion of a project that has transformed the Port Jervis station, making it fully accessible and giving it a more modern feel, as customers continue their return to the railroad. The top-to-bottom transformation at the West of Hudson terminus station included the construction of a one-car length high-level platform, a concrete ramp leading from the parking lot to the platform, and a new sidewalk.
