The Association of American Railroads (AAR)  reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 8, 2025.  For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 497,412 carloads and intermodal units, up 5.4 percent compared with the same week last year.

Amtrak and Rexmark Announce Resolution of Legal Claims for Washington Union Station

Amtrak and Rexmark today announced that their case regarding the lease of the majority of the customer-facing area of Washington Union Station has come to a close. The parties entered into a settlement agreement earlier in February. The judge formally ended the case on March 7, 2025.

Watco to Acquire Great Lakes Central Railroad

Great Lakes Central Railroad (GLC) and Watco Railroad Company Holdings, Inc. (Watco) announce an agreement whereby Watco will acquire ownership of the GLC, the largest Class III regional railroad in Michigan with approximately 400 miles of track stretching through Central and Northern Michigan. Watco has been an equity investor in the GLC since 2013.

MTA Announces Two Open-Gangway Trains Now Operating on the G Line

On Tuesday the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit debuted two open-gangway cars on the ​G line, making it the second subway line to have open-gangway trains. ​ G train passengers now have a 15% chance of riding an open-gangway car every time they ride. Open-gangway trains first operated on the C line in 2024.

MBTA Announces South Coast Rail Service Schedules Now Available

The MBTA announced that South Coast Rail schedules are now available for the Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail Line. For the first time in 65 years, the communities of Taunton, Freetown, New Bedford, Middleborough, and Fall River will now have passenger rail service to and from downtown Boston. Service begins Monday, March 24, with schedules available on mbta.com.

Siemens Mobility to Supply Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority with an Additional 18 S200 LRVs

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) has exercised an option to order an additional 18 S200 Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) from Siemens Mobility to to replace their current fleet operating on the Red, Blue and Green lines.
