CSX Reaches Paid Sick Leave Agreements with Four Unions
CSX has reached agreements with four additional groups of railroad workers to provide paid sick leave benefits, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the work experience for its employees. The unions include SMART-TD Conductors/Trainmen (C&O), SMART-TD Yardmasters, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, and Carrolton Road-Transportation Communications Union-represented Engineers/Yardmen/Maintenance of Way employees.

New York Governor Hochul Launches First Open Gangway Train into Service and Announces 1,000 Subway Cars Now Have Cameras
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the rollout of R211T open gangway subway cars on the C line, running between Washington Heights and East New York, and marked significant progress towards increasing cameras throughout the system, with 1,000 subway cars now equipped with cameras. The unveiling was followed by an inaugural ride with Governor Hochul, Metropolitan Transportation Authority leadership, and elected officials, starting at the 168 St station A,C,1 Line in Washington Heights, which serves as the C line’s terminal.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending January 27, 2024
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending January 27, 2024. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 467,222 carloads and intermodal units, up 0.7 percent compared with the same week last year.

Amtrak Celebrates Completion of New Baltimore Platform Construction
Amtrak representatives and stakeholders gathered with state, local and federal officials for a ribbon cutting to inaugurate a newly constructed boarding platform at Baltimore Penn Station. The new platform is scheduled to begin serving trains this spring. This project is part of Amtrak’s overall redevelopment of Baltimore Penn Station, a $150 million investment to improve customer experience and grow passenger rail.

Norfolk Southern, BLET, and SMART-TD Partner with FRA to Launch Groundbreaking C3RS Pilot Program
Norfolk Southern Corporation, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Division (SMART-TD), in partnership with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), announced Monday their joint participation in an FRA Confidential Close Call Reporting System (C3RS) pilot program designed to enhance railroad safety.
