Amtrak and CSX Partner on Positive Train Control Installation to Improve Safety for the Amtrak Downeaster
Amtrak and CSX, in partnership with the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA), will install Positive Train Control (PTC), the technology capable of automatically controlling train speeds and movements, on more than 100 miles of track between Haverhill, Mass. and Brunswick, Maine.

Amtrak and Partners Break Ground on New Brattleboro Station and Platform Upgrades
Amtrak, in conjunction with the town of Brattleboro, state of Vermont, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), New England Central Railroad (NECR) and the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), broke ground today on a new Brattleboro Station and the state’s first-ever level boarding train platform.

Biden-Harris Administration Announces New Requirements for Freight Railroads to Provide Hazmat Information to First Responders
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced a final rule to protect firefighters and improve public safety. The final rule requires railroads to proactively provide first responders with real-time, electronic information about rail hazmat shipments to the primary Public Safety Answering Point (for example, a 9-1-1 call center or emergency responder phone app such as the AskRail Mobile App as soon as the railroad is aware of an accident or incident involving hazardous materials.

NJ Transit Cuts Ribbon For Grand Reopening of Fully Renovated Elizabeth Rail Station
On Tuesday, June 18, NJ TRANSIT officially cut the ribbon on the fully renovated Elizabeth Station which includes additional platform capacity and access with upgraded elevators and additional staircases, new station buildings and a renovated public plaza.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending June 15, 2024
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 15, 2024. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 493,138 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.4 percent compared with the same week last year.
