Amtrak Releases Fiscal Year 2023 Sustainability Report
A newly released fiscal year (FY) 2023 Sustainability Report details Amtrak’s progress toward Net-Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2045. In FY23 Amtrak replaced more than a million gallons of fossil-fuel with renewable diesel, began integrating climate resilience and sustainability design measures into capital projects and finalized plans to host its first clean energy generation facility.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending June 8, 2024
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 8, 2024. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 489,916 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.1 percent compared with the same week last year.

Route 15 Trolley Partial Service Returns Sunday, June 16
The iconic green-and-cream 1940s-era trolleys are a link to Philadelphia’s rich history. SEPTA is excited to announce that some trolleys will return to service on Girard Avenue’s Route 15 [G] line beginning Sunday, June 16. Buses will also operate along the route until the full fleet has been restored. All service operates between 63rd and Girard and Richmond and Westmoreland Street. Select bus trips operate via Frankford and Delaware Loop.

MTA Replaces First Segment of Metro-North Railroad Park Avenue Viaduct
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that it has successfully replaced the first section of the aging 130-year-old Park Avenue Viaduct without disrupting Metro-North service. This represents a major step toward ensuring this critical transportation infrastructure remains in a state of good repair and enables Metro-North to continue safely delivering record on-time performance.

VPRA and Norfolk Southern in Discussions for New Rail Agreement
The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) announced that it is in preliminary discussions with Norfolk Southern Corporation to purchase the Manassas Line and to pursue an option to extend passenger rail service to the New River Valley (NRV) on the Norfolk Southern main line (N-Line). While negotiations are in the early stages, VPRA and Norfolk Southern have established a mutually beneficial framework for both passenger and freight rail service.

Ontario Awards Contracts to Advance Northeastern Passenger Rail
The Ontario government is delivering on its promise to bring back northeastern passenger rail service by awarding three contracts to design and manufacture nine new station shelters, enhance rail safety and complete warning system upgrades. The contracts mark a significant milestone in reinstating train service between Timmins and Toronto, providing a safe and reliable transportation option for northern and central communities and unlocking Ontario’s full economic potential.
