AAR Reports on US Rail Traffic
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending May 2, 2020, as well as volumes for April 2020. U.S. railroads originated 980,535 carloads in April 2020, down 25.2 percent, or 329,693 carloads, from April 2019. U.S. railroads also originated 1,095,423 containers and trailers in April 2020, down 17.2 percent, or 227,165 units, from the same month last year.

Canadian National sets new grain records.
CN announced that, after having its second best Q1 western Canadian grain movement result with 6.59 million metric tonnes (MMT) moved, the Company moved 2.73 MMT in April, exceeding its previous April record of 2.72 MMT.

RBMN Update Regarding Passenger Trains to/from Jim Thorpe
Reading & Northern understands that the Jim Thorpe Borough Council issued a press release and letter to residents regarding the amusement tax dispute with Reading & Northern Railroad (RBMN). Although the Council did not share the letter or press release with RBMN we did read accounts of their actions in newspaper articles.

CP donates $1 million to four North American charities providing critical supplies and relief in the COVID-19 battle
Canadian Pacific is donating $1 million to four North American charities working on the front lines to help people impacted by COVID-19. In Canada, CP will donate C$350,000 to The Frontline Fund and C$250,000 to Food Banks Canada. In the U.S., CP will donate US$250,000 to Feeding America and up to US$150,000 in matching funds to the American Red Cross.

NJ Transit Introduces Access to COVID-19 Testing for Employees:
Beginning next week, COVID-19 testing will be available daily in East Rutherford to all NJ TRANSIT employees. Through an agreement with Agile Urgent Care and Accurate Diagnostics Lab, NJ TRANSIT employees will be accepted for appointment-only testing at the site which opened on April 13 and is currently geared toward first responders and frontline healthcare workers.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending April 25, 2020. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 414,123 carloads and intermodal units, down 22.4 percent compared with the same week last year.
