Pair of Unique Locomotives Headed to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum
The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, located in North Judson, Indiana, has announced the is very pleased to announce the impending arrival of two unique diesel locomotives. BL2 locomotives 52 and 56 had previously operated on the Saratoga and North Creek Railway in New York and have been acquired by the museum through a lease arrangement with a private owner.

Wabtec’s All-Battery Locomotive, FLXdrive
Wabtec Corporation has announced a rail industry first as its FLXdrive battery-electric locomotive delivered more than an 11-percent average reduction in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for an entire train. It is the equivalent of over 6,200 gallons of diesel fuel saved and approximately 69 tons of CO2 emissions reduced.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending May 15, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending May 15, 2021. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 533,872 carloads and intermodal units, up 28.3 percent compared with the same week last year.

VRE to Return to Full Service
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) will resume its full-service schedule on Tuesday, June 1, increasing commuting options for passengers. VRE has been running a reduced-service schedule since March 17, 2020, following a decline in ridership due to COVID 19.

Virginia Museum of Transportation Announces Delay to 611’s Arrival in Strasburg
VMT has made the decision to temporarily delay 611’s arrival to Strasburg Rail Road. As the crew worked to make the engine ready for the move, a malfunction was discovered with the locomotive’s stoker, preventing the stoker from advancing coal forward into the firebox.

Amtrak and State of Vermont Will Resume Passenger Train Service In July
Amtrak and The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) today announced that tickets are now available for purchase on their state-supported train services for travel beginning on Monday, July 19. This includes the Vermonter, which provides daily service between Washington, DC and St. Albans, Vermont, with reserved seating for Business Class customers, and the Ethan Allen Express, which offers daily service between New York City and Rutland, Vermont, with connecting service to Washington, D.C.
