World’s Largest Steam Locomotive Returns with ‘The Big Boy 2021 Tour’
Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, will embark on “The Big Boy 2021 Tour” Aug. 5 to celebrate railroad heritage and the communities Union Pacific serves. This is the first tour since the locomotive was restored for 2019’s “Great Race” tours celebrating the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion. No. 4014 will leave the Steam Shop in Cheyenne, Wyoming, August 5, making brief whistle-stops in communities across Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.

Mask Guidelines Changed While Waiting On A Railroad Platform.
On Thursday, June 10, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that travelers are no longer required to wear a mask while waiting for a train, trolley car, bus or ferry at outdoor transit hubs, including outdoor railroad platforms. This is due to the lower risk of coronavirus transmission outdoors. However, masks are currently still required indoors on all forms of transportation.

Western Maryland Appoints Interim Executive Director
As of June 9, 2021, the Board of Directors of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) unanimously voted to appoint Wesley Heinz to the position of interim executive director while Mr. John Garner, current director, was granted a 60-day sabbatical to address health and family concerns.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending June 5, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 5, 2021 For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 489,144 carloads and intermodal units, up 12.9 percent compared with the same week last year.

U. S. Steel Announces Sale of Transtar, LLC to Fortress Transportation and Infrastructure Investors LLC for $640 Million
United States Steel Corporation announced that it has agreed to sell Transtar, LLC to an affiliate of Fortress Transportation and Infrastructure Investors LLC for $640 Million. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021, subject to customary closing conditions including receipt of certain regulatory approvals.

MTA Announces Track Renewal and Signal Modernization Work Taking Place in Manhattan This Summer
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced critical infrastructure work coming to its 6 Av and 8 Av lines in Manhattan this summer. The track renewal project on the 6 Av Line includes replacement of the downtown express track at 47-50 Sts- Rockefeller Center.

CSX Announces Stock Split
CSX Corporation today announced that its Board of Directors has approved a 3-for-1 stock split to be distributed to shareholders as a stock dividend. Each shareholder of record at the close of business on June 18, 2021, will receive two additional shares of CSX common stock for each share held as of this record date.
