CP Debuts Interline Service from Lázaro Cárdenas to Chicago
Canadian Pacific Railway Limited announced that, working with Kansas City Southern (“KCS”) on an interline basis, it has successfully launched the first dedicated international intermodal train between Lázaro Cárdenas and the U.S. Midwest. This first Lázaro Cárdenas to Chicago train was born out of the need to avoid excessive delays due to the unprecedented and ongoing supply chain challenges affecting North America’s West Coast.

Wabtec and Union Pacific Railroad Partner to Reduce Emissions with Higher Biodiesel Blends
Union Pacific Railroad will begin using a higher biodiesel blend in locomotives it acquired from Wabtec. The new collaboration helps Union Pacific as it works to increase the percentage of low-carbon fuels consumed to 10% of its total diesel consumption by 2025 and 20% by 2030.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending March 5, 2022
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 5, 2022. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 505,177 carloads and intermodal units, down 1.9 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending March 5 were 238,870 carloads, up 2.8 percent compared with the same week in 2021, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 266,307 containers and trailers, down 5.8 percent compared to 2021.

Jacobs was selected by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) as the Prime Designer for Penn Station Access, the largest expansion of Metro-North’s regional railroad system in its history.

NJ Transit Cancels Service Due to Damaged Catenary Pole
NJ Transit train service is cancelled on the Morris & Essex Line and the Gladstone Branch due to extensive damage to a catenary pole in Maplewood, N.J. A fast moving cold front during the evening of March 7th resulted in strong winds, causing damage to the catenary pole. NJ Transit does not have an estimate as to when service will return.

Amtrak Northeast Corridor Line Service Resumes.
Today Amtrak resumed service on the Northeast Corridor, between Philadelphia and Washington DC, after the recent Norfolk Southern coal train derailment at Perryman, Maryland.

Amtrak Michigan Schedule Changes
Effective March 8 Amtrak will revise the schedules of Pontiac-Chicago Wolverine trains. To accommodate anticipated track work, 17 minutes were added to most schedules.

Newburgh & South Shore Railroad Purchases Battery-Electric Locomotive
Newburgh & South Shore Railroad (NSR), an affiliate of OmniTRAX, has purchased its first all-battery electric locomotive to service its northern Ohio rail lines. The new AMPS Traction GP9 based battery electric switching locomotive is a 250,000 lb. FRA compliant unit.
