MBTA Commuter Rail Spring/Summer Schedule To Take Effect May 23
Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the MBTA’s partner that operates the commuter rail, today announced that the Spring/Summer 2022 Commuter Rail schedules will go into effect on Monday, May 23. Schedules are typically adjusted twice a year through close coordination between Keolis and the MBTA to meet changing passenger needs and reflect investments to improve service

Charlotte Western Railroad Commences Rail Operations
Charlotte Western Railroad (CER), a wholly owned subsidiary of Jaguar Transport Holdings (Jaguar), began rail operations on May 2nd, 2022. It acquired leasehold rights to approximately 13 miles of track owned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

Fairwinds Landing Leases Norfolk Southern’s Lambert’s Point Docks Property
Fairwinds Landing, LLC. announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Norfolk Southern Railway Company for a 30-year lease of the company’s Lambert’s Point Docks, a facility situated adjacent to Norfolk Southern’s coal terminal. Fairwinds’ vision is to transform the property into a world-class maritime operations and logistics center that supports the offshore wind, defense, and transportation industries. The facility will be rebranded as “Fairwinds Landing” to mark its transformation. Beginning in late 2022, Fairwinds expects to invest more than $100 million in buildings and infrastructure.

Route 1 Bridge Reconstruction to Affect West Trenton Line Schedule
Due to PennDOT reconstruction project of US Route 1 bridge, shuttle buses will replace SEPTA train service between Langhorne and Trevose, Pa. stations during the weekdays May 19-20 and weekends of May 14-15, May 21-22, May 28-29, June 4-5, and June 25-26.

Rail Traffic for April and the Week Ending April 30, 2022
The Association of American Railroads reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending April 30, 2022, as well as volumes for April 2022.
U.S. railroads originated 919,703 carloads in April 2022, down 3.4 percent, or 31,929 carloads, from April 2021. U.S. railroads also originated 1,083,151 containers and trailers in April 2022, down 7.7 percent, or 90,869 units, from the same month last year. Combined U.S. carload and intermodal originations in April 2022 were 2,002,854, down 5.8 percent, or 122,798 carloads and intermodal units from April 2021.
