Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society Acquires Park-Series Dome

The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society has acquired the Riding Mountain Park, a vintage streamlined dome-lounge-observation car built in 1954 for transcontinental passenger train service on the Canadian Pacific. The acquisition was made possible by a private donor.

Norfolk Southern to Purchase Assets of the Cincinnati Southern Railway

Norfolk Southern Corporation announced the execution of a purchase agreement under which the company’s operating subsidiary, Norfolk Southern Railway Company, will acquire substantially all of the assets of the Cincinnati Southern Railway (CSR), an approximately 337 mile railroad that runs from Cincinnati, Ohio to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Amtrak Advances Susquehanna River Rail Bridge Project

Amtrak is moving forward with a major infrastructure project to replace the 116-year-old Susquehanna River Rail Bridge. Two new bridges will replace the current bridge; and overhead power, signal, safety and security systems will be modernized to improve railroad efficiency on the Northeast Corridor. The total construction cost to replace the Susquehanna River Rail Bridge is estimated to be at least $1.5 billion.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending November 12, 2022

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending November 12, 2022.  For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 490,350 carloads and intermodal units, down 2.5 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending November 12 were 235,474 carloads, down 0.2 percent compared with the same week in 2021, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 254,876 containers and trailers, down 4.5 percent compared to 2021.

Corman Railroad Company, LLC announces that it has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase a 43-mile railroad branch and lease a 20-mile branch from Norfolk Southern Corporation, adding its 19th railroad to its operational portfolio. The closing is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
