Full Long Island Rail Road Service to Grand Central Madison to Begin Monday, Feb. 27
MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber announced full Long Island Rail Road service to Grand Central Madison will take effect on Monday, Feb. 27, adding 271 LIRR trains per day, increasing LIRR systemwide service to 936 trains per day, of which 296 will be to or from Grand Central Madison. Service levels will increase 41% over today’s schedules of 665 daily trains and create reverse-peak service on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma Branches for the first time. Train schedules are available via the TrainTime app and at mta.info, where users can find pdf timetables or create point-to-point itineraries.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending February 4, 2023
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending February 4, 2023. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 449,586 carloads and intermodal units, down 1.9 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending February 4 were 216,700 carloads, down 0.9 percent compared with the same week in 2022, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 232,886 containers and trailers, down 2.9 percent compared to 2022.

Brightline to Begin High Speed Testing at 110 MPH Through Palm Beach County
Brightline will begin testing trains at 110 miles-per-hour, in northern Palm Beach County as soon as Saturday, February 11. This phase of Brightline testing will occur throughout February and March. The testing will take place in Palm Beach County including Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, North Palm Beach, Lake Park, Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach.

CSX Reaches Agreement with BMWED and BRC on Paid Sick Leave for Railroad Workers
CSX announced that it has reached agreements with two unions that provide paid sick leave for approximately 5,000 railroad workers.
The agreements were reached with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way (BMWED), which represent engineering employees, and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen (BRC), representing mechanical workers.
