B&O Railroad Museum will Move Historic American Freedom Train Locomotive
On Saturday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m., the B&O Railroad Museum will move the iconic American Freedom Train No. 1 (AFT 1) – the locomotive that pulled the American Freedom Train on a nationwide tour in 1975-1976 to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the United States – to the Museum’s restoration shop. The AFT 1 has been on display in the Museum’s front parking lot and will be moved for the first time in decades to begin its journey to be cosmetically restored to its former glory in time for the 250th
anniversary of the United States in 2026.

Metro-North Railroad’s Leaf-Zapping ‘Laser Train’ Rebranded in Bold, Retro-Futuristic Design
Metro-North Railroad today announced that its Laser Train – which clears rails of dangerous wet, slimy sludge caused by crushed fallen leaves by zapping it with lasers – has been wrapped in a bold display that makes it prominently visible to the public. Previously, the train looked unlike normal maintenance trains.

Amtrak Announces Simplified Fares Coming Soon

Alstom announced the first results of North America’s first demonstration of hydrogen-powered trains. The Coradia iLint carried more than 10,000 passengers, over 130 trips spanning 10,660 kilometres in Quebec this summer from mid-June to the end of September.

Temporary Lynn Commuter Rail Station Platform Expected to Open in December, Nine Months Ahead of Schedule
On October 11, Acting Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt, MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng, Senator Brendan P. Crighton, Representative Peter Capano, Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson, and MBTA Board Director Thomas McGee joined community leaders and stakeholders were at the construction site of the temporary platform at Lynn Commuter Rail Station on the Newburyport/Rockport Line.
