MBTA Board of Directors Approves $2.7 Billion FY24 Budget
The MBTA Board of Directors voted to approve a $2.7 billion operating budget for fiscal year 2024 that will sustain levels of service while making strategic investments in safety, staffing, and hiring, key capital investments including station and accessibility needs, and design work required for a future connection of the Red and Blue lines.

CSX Announces $5 Million Donation to the B&O Railroad Museum to Launch a Transformation of the Campus in Southwest Baltimore
CSX Corp today announced a gift of $5 million to the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad Museum in Baltimore, MD, towards the museum’s $30 million capital campaign in anticipation of the B&O railroad’s bicentennial anniversary in 2027.

Weekly Rail Traffic for May and the Week Ending June 3, 2023
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 3, 2023, as well as volumes for May 2023. U.S. railroads originated 1,129,255 carloads in May 2023, up 0.8 percent, or 8,840 carloads, from May 2022. U.S. railroads also originated 1,190,553 containers and trailers in May 2023, down 11.1 percent, or 148,780 units, from the same month last year. Combined U.S. carload and intermodal originations in May 2023 were 2,319,808, down 5.7 percent, or 139,940 carloads and intermodal units from May 2022.

CPKC adds 1,000 Reefers to Expanding MMX Service
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) announced the addition of 1,000 new, 53-foot, refrigerated intermodal containers to its network, more than doubling CPKC’s existing fleet and bringing more shipping options to customers using the expanding Mexico Midwest Express (MMX) Series premium intermodal service.

ReVolt Self-Propelled, Battery-Electric Railcars
Intramotev, a pioneering technology company focused on developing autonomous, zero-emission rail solutions, has finalized an agreement with Iron Senergy to provide three (3) ReVolt railcars for its 17-mile private rail line that transports coal produced by its Cumberland Coal Mine to its Alicia Harbor Facility located on the Monongahela River in Western Pennsylvania.

Biden-Harris Administration Announces Funding for 63 Projects in 32 States That Will Help Reduce Train-Vehicle Collisions and Blocked Rail Crossings in the U.S.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today announced it has awarded more than $570 million in Railroad Crossing Elimination (RCE) Grant Program funding to projects in 32 states. This inaugural round of funding will address more than 400 at-grade crossings nationwide, improve safety, and make it easier to get around railroad tracks by adding grade separations, closing at-grade crossings, and improving existing at-grade crossings where train tracks and roads intersect.
