SEPTA Announces Service Interruption Guide: Possible Strike by TWU Local 234 as Soon as Nov. 1

The current contract between SEPTA and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 234 expires at midnight on Tuesday, October 31. There has been progress in the contract negotiations, and there is an urgency to reach a new agreement that will avoid a disruption to City Transit Division bus, trolley, Market-Frankford Line, and Broad Street Line services.

TSA Renews Cybersecurity Requirements for Passenger and Freight Railroads

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced updates to three security directives (SD) regulating passenger and freight railroad carriers in the continued effort to enhance the cybersecurity of surface transportation systems and associated infrastructure. These revised directives, which were set to expire on Oct. 24, have been renewed for one year, and include updates that seek to strengthen the industry’s defenses against cyberattacks.

Near-Normal MTA Metro-North Railroad Hudson Line Service Resumes Following Saturday Mudslide in Scarborough

MTA Metro-North Railroad today resumed near normal service on the full length of the Hudson Line after crews worked for 43 hours straight to clear 350 cubic yards of soil and debris and 250 cubic yards of rock and cement walls from a mudslide in Scarborough that covered all four of the line’s tracks. The railroad had operated bus service over the weekend to allow passengers to continue travel while train service was suspended between Tarrytown and Croton-Harmon.

On Saturday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m., the B&O Railroad Museum will move the iconic American Freedom Train No. 1 (AFT 1) – the locomotive that pulled the American Freedom Train on a nationwide tour in 1975-1976 to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the United States – to the Museum’s restoration shop. The AFT 1 has been on display in the Museum’s front parking lot and will be moved for the first time in decades to begin its journey to be cosmetically restored to its former glory in time for the 250th

Metro-North Railroad today announced that its Laser Train – which clears rails of dangerous wet, slimy sludge caused by crushed fallen leaves by zapping it with lasers – has been wrapped in a bold display that makes it prominently visible to the public. Previously, the train looked unlike normal maintenance trains.
