Maryland Transit Administration to Expand, Modernize MARC Train Martin Maintenance Yard

Following unanimous approval from the Board of Public Works last week, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will begin construction to expand and modernize the MARC train storage facilities at the Martin Maintenance Yard in Baltimore County. Expanding storage capacity at the rail yard is a key component to delivering more frequent service that better serve existing, changing and new travel markets as outlined in the MARC Growth and Transformation Plan.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending October 4, 2025. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 503,538 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.6 percent compared with the same week last year.

Phase One Milestone of MTA Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement Project

New York Governor Kathy Hochul  announced a major Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) milestone with the completion of bridge replacement work on Phase 1 of the Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement Project. Through 128 bridge installations, the project replaced 8,240 track feet of the aging 132-year-old structure, all without disrupting Metro-North service. Thanks to strong project management and an innovative construction approach, the project as a whole is $93 million under budget and 51 months ahead of schedule.

On Sunday, October 12, the public is invited to Historic Hoboken Terminal to join NJ TRANSIT in celebrating New Jersey’s rich railroad history with some of the agency’s iconic heritage locomotives and railroad equipment – all while learning about career opportunities available on the railroad. “Meet Our Rail Fleet” will be held on Sunday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. near Track 17 in Hoboken Terminal. MTA Board Adopts Fare and Toll Increases to Take Effect January 2026

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board approved toll and fare increases, along with a series of fare and ticket policy changes designed to simplify the array of offerings to prioritize affordability on New York City Transit’s subways and buses, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), and the Metro-North Railroad. The vote was 11-0, with two abstentions. Most of these changes will take effect in January 2026 to align with the full systemwide rollout of the tap-and-ride technology
