Biden-Harris Administration Calls on Class I Freight Railroads to Guarantee Paid Sick Leave and Get to 100% Worker Coverage
U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Department of Labor Acting Secretary Julie Su today has sent letters to the CEOs of three Class I freight railroads – CPKC, CN, and CSX – calling on them to guarantee paid sick leave to all of their employees.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending September 25, 2024
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending September 21, 2024. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 522,112 carloads and intermodal units, up 6.0 percent compared with the same week last year.

MTA Board Approves 2025-2029 Capital Plan
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today approved, by a vote of 10-0, the Authority’s proposed 2025-2029 Capital Plan, outlining a $68.4 billion investment in the region’s subways, buses, railroads, bridges, and tunnels over the next five years to ensure New Yorkers continue to have access to reliable, accessible, and sustainable transit.

Biden-Harris Administration Requires Transit Agencies Nationwide to Address Assaults Against Transit Workers
Today, as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to protecting America’s frontline transit workers from assault, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced General Directive 24-1: Required Actions Regarding Assaults on Transit Workers. This General Directive, the first one to be issued by FTA, will require more than 700 transit agencies nationwide to take action to protect frontline transit workers from the risk of assaults.
