AAR Reports Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending February 1, 2025

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending February 1, 2025. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 513,622 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.5 percent compared with the same week last year.

The Industrial Archives & Library (IAL) proudly announces receipt by donation of the photographic and film work of world-renowned railroad photographer and author, the late Michael A. Eagleson. Eagleson’s unique collection spans more than 60 years, and is noteworthy in that it helps document the fading of the steam locomotive from the American railroad scene, and eventually that same gradual surrender to more modern locomotive technologies around the world.

Norfolk Southern Corporation announced Wednesday its fourth quarter and full-year 2024 financial results. For the quarter, revenue was $3.0 billion, income from railway operations was $1.1 billion, operating ratio was 62.6%, and diluted earnings per share were $3.23. For full-year 2024, revenue was $12.1 billion, income from railway operations was $4.1 billion, operating ratio was 66.4%, and diluted earnings per share were $11.57.
