MTA Board Unanimously Ratifies Family Benefits Agreement
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board unanimously ratified the first-in-the-nation COVID-19 Family Benefits Agreement. The MTA has reached 41 agreements with 26 different unions to honor their heroic service and sacrifice following initial agreements with Transport Workers Union Local 100 (TWU), the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, Transportation Workers (SMART), International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 808 (IBT).

Canadian Pacific Reports First Quarter Earnings
Canadian Pacific Railway Limited announced first-quarter operating results, including revenues of $2.04 billion, an operating ratio (“OR”) of 59.2 percent, diluted earnings per share (“EPS”) of $2.98 and adjusted diluted EPS of $4.42.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending April 18, 2020
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending April 18, 2020. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 403,283 carloads and intermodal units, down 23.3 percent compared with the same week last year.

Amtrak Thruway Buses Temporarily Replace Hiawatha Trains Between Milwaukee and Chicago
In response to lower ridership demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Amtrak, in partnership with the Wisconsin and Illinois state transportation departments, will temporarily substitute daily Amtrak Thruway Buses for Amtrak Hiawatha Service trains between Milwaukee and Chicago.

New York City Transit and MTA Bus Issues Update on Efforts to Protect Heroic Workforce
New York City Transit (NYCT) and MTA Bus today issued an update on efforts to protect its heroic workforce of 53,000 employees. The MTA continues to aggressively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and take action to protect its workforce, including installing plexiglass barriers at 85 subway and bus locations, implementing a vinyl shield pilot program to protect bus operators, staggering reporting locations and break times, and expanding the nation-leading “Temperature Brigade.”

U.S. Department of Transportation Makes Available $311.8 Million for Capital Rail Projects
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program. It will fund up to $311.8 million in freight and passenger rail projects that improve transportation safety, efficiency, and reliability as authorized under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act.
