U.S. Department of Transportation Announces $851.15 Million Loan for the Train Control Implementation and Rehabilitation Project in New England
U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Build America Bureau provided a $851.15 million loan under the Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing (RRIF) Program to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for the Train Control Implementation and Rehabilitation Project in New England.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending July 18, 2020
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending July 18, 2020. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 481,597 carloads and intermodal units, down 8.5 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending July 18 were 214,685 carloads, down 15.7 percent compared with the same week in 2019, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 266,912 containers and trailers, down 1.7 percent compared to 2019.

As U.S. Senate Considers Coronavirus Relief Bill, MTA Details $16 Billion Deficit Through 2024
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today released its preliminary 2021 budget and four-year financial plan, detailing a deficit of $16.2 billion by 2024. The MTA is projecting deficits of $3.2 billion for 2020 and $5.8 billion for 2021. As the pandemic subsides and riders return, the MTA projects that the deficit for 2022 will fall to $3.5 billion for 2022 before settling into a range of $1.8 billion to $2 billion for the following two years.
