Amtrak has partnered with Waze, the platform bringing together communities on and off the road, to announce a new feature that will provide alerts to users approaching a railroad crossing. This feature is unique to Waze and puts drivers’ safety first, helping them return to the roads by highlighting the potential risks associated with driving over railroad crossings.

NJ Transit Receives $2.3 Million Federal Security Grant
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded NJ TRANSIT more than two million dollars in grant money to purchase and install new security cameras and related equipment at dozens of locations in South Jersey. NJ TRANSIT has been awarded $2,339,700 from the Transit Security Grant Program, which is awarding up to $88 million for projects nationwide.

MTA Metro-North Railroad Announces Significant Post-Isaias Service Restorations for Friday, Aug. 7
MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that it expects to restore full-length New Haven Line service tomorrow morning at 5 a.m. with trains operating between Grand Central Terminal and New Haven and all intermediate stations. At the same time, Harlem Line service will extend six miles northward, to Chappaqua and Mt. Kisco.

NJ TRANSIT Crews Making Progress To Restore Service After Extensive Storm Damage
NJ TRANSIT crews, working through the night, have been making progress in clearing more than 250 downed trees to allow additional rail lines to open. In addition to the previously announced Northeast Corridor resuming service at 10:00 a.m. utilizing a weekend schedule, the Raritan Valley, Main/Bergen County and Pascack Valley Lines will also resume service at 10:00 a.m. on weekend schedules

Amtrak Prepares for New Diesel Locomotive Fleet
Amtrak today released renderings and other information about the first of the diesel-electric locomotives that will replace the current fleet on the National Network, including all long distance and many state-sponsored routes. Five of the first six locomotives will have this version of our current Phase VI paint scheme (a “livery” in trade terms) and one will be painted to recognize next year’s 50th anniversary of the inauguration of Amtrak service.
