Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending August 8, 2020

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending August 8, 2020. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 497,397 carloads and intermodal units, down 6.7 percent compared with the same week last year.

MTA Announces Significant Positive Train Control Advances on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced major progress made on implementing Positive Train Control (PTC) on MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad, reaffirming both railroads will be in full PTC operations by the end of 2020.  Progress on buildout of Positive Train Control is measured in terms of mileage covered and in terms of train cars with the software needed to operate in PTC.
