Governor Cuomo Issues Executive Order Directing MTA to Develop Plan to Bolster Mask Compliance on Public Transit System
The MTA announced riders who refuse to wear a mask on public transit will be subject to a $50 fine. This new measure – which will be effective Monday, September 14 – follows Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 202.18 issued on April 17 requiring all passengers and employees to wear a face covering while riding on public transit.

Users of multi-ride discount tickets will confirm each ride before travel
Amtrak is taking a new step to make certain our passengers can easily distance themselves from each other on our busiest trains in the Northeast Corridor and on the Amtrak National Network. Effective Sept. 14, passengers who purchase multi-ride tickets will confirm their travel on a specific train on a specific date.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending September 5, 2020
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending September 5, 2020. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 509,637 carloads and intermodal units, up 8.6 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending September 5 were 222,298 carloads, down 6.9 percent compared with the same week in 2019, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 287,339 containers and trailers, up 24.8 percent compared to 2019.

LIRR Unveils New Technology That Identifies Least Crowded Trains Before Riders Leave Home
Long Island Rail Road officials today unveiled a first-of-its-kind planning tool that allow passengers to choose trains based on recent crowding data. LIRR is the first transit agency globally to deploy the crowding data feature, which empowers passengers with information so accurate and precise that they never have to second guess the best time to use the system.

CSX DERAILMENT RESULTS IN AMTRAK ELECTRIC OUTAGE
Due to a CSX freight train derailment at Oak Point Yard in the Bronx, N.Y., all Amtrak service has been suspended between New York and New Haven. Four freight cars had derailed and one hit a catenary pole, causing an electrical outage.
