MBTA Announces Substantial Completion of Lechmere Viaduct Rehabilitation
The MBTA announced the substantial completion of the $87.4 million Lechmere Viaduct Rehabilitation Project. As part of the MBTA’s Capital Transformation Program, this project restored the 110-year-old structure as well as the installation of new track, signals, and power across the viaduct. These improvements are essential for the timely delivery of the future Green Line Type 10 “supercars” that will bring more modern and accessible service to all Green Line riders

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending March 12, 2022
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 12, 2022. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 496,134 carloads and intermodal units, down 4.7 percent compared with the same week last year.

Collaboration Between Indiana Communities and Fort Wayne Railroad Saves Historic Artifacts
Thanks to a generous donor and the efforts of Noblesville, Indiana’s Parks and Recreation Department, and the City of Logansport, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society has recovered over half a dozen pieces of vintage railroad equipment for preservation.

Metro-North Railroad Announces New Train Schedules Now Available Online
Metro-North Railroad today announced new train schedules taking effect on Sunday, March 27, are now available online. The schedule changes include the addition of 66 weekday trains to Metro-North’s three East of Hudson lines. The addition of more weekday trains brings the railroad’s weekday service to 89% of its pre-pandemic levels and restores pre-pandemic express service at several stations.

The Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway and Montgomery County awarded $500,000 Through The NCRR “Build Ready Sites” Funding Program
The Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway (ACWR) was awarded $500,000 from the North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) through its new Build Ready Sites initiative. These funds will help to develop 90 acres which will encompass the ACWR’s Candor headquarters property into a rail-served industrial park in Montgomery County, NC, with easy access to I-74 in central North Carolina.

Washington Metro Projects
As Metro prepares for the opening of both the Silver Line Extension and Potomac Yard Station in 2022, the transit authority will also advance its intensive state of good repair program. This includes completion of the multi-year platform reconstruction effort at 20 outdoor rail stations and several large-scale construction projects, including a major rehabilitation of the Yellow Line’s Potomac River tunnel and bridge crossing.
