URHS to Commence Restoration of U34CH 3372

United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey will soon commence on the restoration of former Erie Lackawanna U34CH 3372.   FMW Solutions has performed a full mechanical evaluation of the locomotive. The inspection resulted in several key findings. The prime mover shows signs of wear from its in-service career,  but is in very good shape. Also, the main components show nothing that would rule out operation. There is extensive damage to portions of the wiring due to vandalism and weather, which can be repaired.  The project will be in four phases: prime mover restoration, cosmetic restoration, operational restoration,  and head end power restoration.  The URHS has commenced fund raising to fund this project. Already, Tri-State Railway Historical Society has provided a $10,000 matching grant. The 3372 will be available for  public viewing this Sunday (Sept. 25) at the Railroad Museum for a Day in Boonton, N.J., from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m.  For more information concerning the URHS visit URHS.org.
