New York, Susquehanna & Western operated two Office Car Specials from Binghamton over the Southern Tier Line during June. On Thursday, June 4, the NYS&W special operated east from Binghamton to Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania, to provide NYS&W management and Board members a look at the newly established a crushed rock transfer station there, operated by Strategic Rail Solutions of North Bergen, New Jersey.

Crushed bluestone rock is shipped from Lackawaxen to New Jersey in gondolas, and NYS&W enjoys a backhaul of waste material from New Jersey to Jamesville, New York, from which empty gons return to Lackawaxen to be refilled. The facility is serviced by the twice weekly nocturnal SU-100…
