Skip the traffic. Forget the expensive parking. Just   hop aboard free transit Tuesday, September 22 as the Moore-Miller Administration celebrates Car Free Day. Riders can enjoy all-day, free rides on the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) including on MTA’s Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC, Commuter Bus and Mobility. Whether that ride is to school, work or anywhere riders wish to go – even to enjoy the action of the Orioles taking on the Toronto Blue Jays at Camden Yards in the evening.

“Car Free Day is an opportunity for all of us to take a moment and think about how we move through our communities,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Tony Bridges. “By offering free rides for a day, we are telling the public we are proud of the service we offer and we intend to make you a regular customer of the MTA.”

The free transit initiative underscores the Moore-Miller Administration’s commitment to expanding transit ridership which aids the environment and creates cleaner communities by reducing the number of vehicles on the road, easing traffic congestion, improving air quality and lowering car emissions.

World Car-Free Day is an internationally recognized initiative that encourages people to explore alternatives to driving their cars by walking, bicycling, carpooling and using public transportation. For the MTA, the day is an opportunity to thank existing customers, encouragenew riders to explore our travel modes and help create healthier and more sustainable communities.

For those who are brand new to public transportation, Car Free Day offers the perfect opportunity to climb aboard and see all the great parks, museums, shops and restaurants just steps away from MTA transit routes.
