Maryland Transit Administration Invites Riders to Go Car Free Monday, September 22:

The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is celebrating World Car-Free Day with free rides systemwide on Monday, September 22. The agency is encouraging the public to choose to travel by bus or train instead of driving. This year the public can make the most out of Car Free Day by taking transit to work or school in the morning and then taking transit to Ravens Monday Night Football home game against the Detroit Lions.

“Car Free Day is a reminder that transit is one of the most enjoyable and stress-free ways to get around,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “By choosing public transit over car travel, you help to improve our environment by reducing emissions and ease congestion on our roads.”

Observed annually around the world, World Car-Free Day encourages people to reconsider their daily travel choices by leaving the car at home. Alternatives such as public transit, biking, walking and carpooling create cleaner air, safer streets and stronger communities.

First-time riders can plan their trip on the agency’s website www.mta.maryland.gov the Transit app which is free to download. Activate the GOconvenient step-by-step guidance for your whole trip.

The Maryland Transit Administration is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States, operating systems that include Local Bus, Commuter Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train Service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit network.
