The United Railroad Historical Society has announced that there will be an upcoming hiatus for the Hudson River Rail daytrips due to Amtrak operational changes. Amtrak will soon begin the rebuilding of the East River Tunnels between New York Penn Station and Queens. This will restrict the number of Amtrak trains operating the through the tunnels, so Amtrak will be operating trains between New York and Albany with a locomotive on each end. In addition, the Empire Route trains will be serviced in Albany, rather than New York’s Sunnyside Yard. Due to this, the URHS will suspend Hudson River Rail trips. However, plans are for the operation of 12 excursions in February and early March, before the Amtrak changes become effective. Tickets for these trips will go on sale this Wednesday at HudsonRiverRail.com
