Hoosac Tunnel remains closed and detours still on

Pan Am’s Hoosac Tunnel remains closed. The railroad is repairing the tunnel, however it is expected to remain out of service until at least the end of March.  Norfolk Southern’s partner Pan Am Southern continues to detour general merchandise freight traffic via the Vermont Railway. In addition, automotive traffic destined for Davisville, Rhode Island is also being detoured via Vermont. Automotive traffic to Ayer, Massachusetts is under embargo while the intermodal terminal at Ayer remains closed. This traffic is expected to resume upon the reopening of the tunnel.
