After seeing service on the Strasburg in 2021, N&W No. 611 underwent a federally mandated annual inspection in the Strasburg Rail Road shops during most of 2022. Before the locomotive returns to Virginia, it will operate on the Strasburg Rail Road during two weekends in May. The Strasburg Railroad and the Virginia Museum of Transportation will host the “Queen of Steam” — for one final time – on the Road to Paradise.
These ticketed events this spring will be the locomotive’s only public events in Pennsylvania this year. In particular, the excursion events over the Memorial Day weekend were intentionally scheduled to coincide with the locomotive’s 73rd birthday. The build date for N&W No. 611 is listed as May 29, 1950. Dates for the excursions are as follows.
