Fairwinds Landing Leases Norfolk Southern’s Lambert’s Point Docks Property

Fairwinds Landing, LLC. announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Norfolk Southern Railway Company for a 30-year lease of the company’s Lambert’s Point Docks, a facility situated adjacent to Norfolk Southern’s coal terminal. Fairwinds’ vision is to transform the property into a world-class maritime operations and logistics center that supports the offshore wind, defense, and transportation industries. The facility will be rebranded as “Fairwinds Landing” to mark its transformation. Beginning in late 2022, Fairwinds expects to invest more than $100 million in buildings and infrastructure.

Currently, there is a shortage of port facilities that have the capability and availability to support the Biden Administration’s goal of installing 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030. The Commonwealth of Virginia passed legislation in 2020 that relies on generating 5,200 megawatts from offshore wind facilities annually by 2034 to assist in transitioning the state to 100% clean energy usage by 2050. Fairwinds Landing will have the capabilities to support many aspects of the offshore wind supply chain, including manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly; construction and marshalling; staging, maintenance, and operations; as well as maritime logistics and transportation.

Covering 111 acres, Fairwinds Landing is one of the top East Coast facilities able to support the offshore wind industry. The property features 6,000 linear feet of waterfront infrastructure and pier space that boasts more than 30 feet of water depth, as well as deep water access, no air draft restrictions, and proximity to two large offshore wind developments in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
