SEPTA Board Approves Fiscal Year 2024 Operating & Capital Budgets:
SEPTA’s Board approved Operating and Capital Budget proposals for Fiscal Year 2024, advancing plans to fund everyday operations and major improvement projects. This will be the last budget year before SEPTA hits a fiscal cliff that would result in significant service cuts and large fare increases.

Brightline Celebrates Completion of Orlando Extension Construction:
Brightline, the only provider of modern, eco-friendly, intercity rail in America, celebrated the completion of construction to Orlando, paving the way for the launch of service between Central and South Florida this summer. To mark the completion of construction, mayors representing Brightline station cities along with Brightline Orlando construction team members gathered to celebrate with a roundtable conversation on transportation and economic impact in Florida.

USDOT Proposes Requirements for Real-time Hazmat Information for Firefighters and First Responders to Improve Freight Rail Safety

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending June 17, 2023
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 17, 2023. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 477,126 carloads and intermodal units, down 3.0 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending June 17 were 228,724 carloads, up 1.2 percent compared with the same week in 2022, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 248,402 containers and trailers, down 6.5 percent compared to 2022.

CSX Unveils Locomotive 1973 Honoring Chessie System Heritage
CSX Waycross locomotive shop employees are paying tribute to the iconic Chessie System by unveiling a locomotive with a new paint design. Renumbered CSX 1973, the locomotive features the classic colors of the Chessie System, which have not been used by the company since it merged with Seaboard Coast Line Industries in 1980.

Maryland Governor Moore Announces Baltimore Red Line Relaunch
Flanked by local, state, federal and community leaders, Governor Wes Moore on June 15 announced the historic relaunch of Baltimore’s Red Line, a major investment in transit to significantly enhance east-west connectivity across the Baltimore region. Governor Moore made the announcement at the West Baltimore MARC Station joined by Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller; Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld and Maryland transportation officials; elected representatives from Maryland’s congressional delegation, the Maryland General Assembly, Baltimore City, Baltimore County; as well as agency partners, community advocates, and transit stakeholders representing a wide range of businesses and organizations.
