MBTA Announces Ambitious Track Improvement Program to Eliminate All Speed Restrictions by End of 2024
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) today announced the launch of its Track Improvement Program, a major, bold initiative to eliminate all existing speed restrictions and fix tracks closer to a state of good repair by the end of next year. This means that the infrastructure is structurally sound, functional, and meets all applicable safety and performance standards. The program is part of the MBTA’s broader efforts to “Rebuild, Restore, and Reimagine” the public transit system.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending November 4, 2023
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending November 4, 2023. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 484,757 carloads and intermodal units, down 1.7 percent compared with the same week last year.

CSX Donates $1 Million to Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for New Train Station
CSX Corp., one of Jacksonville’s largest employers, today announced a donation of $1 million to Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens as part of REZOOVENATION: The Campaign to Inspire. The donation will support the construction of a new CSX Bicentennial Train Station, symbolizing a commitment to the community and coinciding with the founding anniversary of the railroad.

$6.76 Billion for New York Passenger Rail Projects from Biden Administration’s Infrasture Grants
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the Biden Administration has awarded of $6.76 billion for downstate passenger rail projects that are critical to ensuring the region’s economy continues to thrive and expand. Under Bipartisan Infrastructure Law grants announced today by the Federal Railroad Administration, four key New York projects that renew and expand the region’s rail network will receive the following Federal investments.

Amtrak Awarded Federal Funds for 12 Projects of National Significance Totaling Nearly $10B Across America’s Busiest Rail Corridor
Amtrak has been awarded nearly $10 billion in Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) funding from the Biden-Harris Administration to modernize critical infrastructure, improve stations and support future ridership growth on the Northeast Corridor (NEC). This historic funding comes at a critical time as NEC ridership continues to rise, consistently exceeding pre-pandemic levels since early summer as Amtrak delivers a new era of passenger rail.
