LIRR to Adopt New Schedules May 22 as Crews Perform Track and Infrastructure Renewal and Upgrades in Brooklyn and Long Island South Shore
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that crews will perform Long Island Rail Road track and infrastructure renewal and upgrades in Brooklyn and along the South Shore of Long Island this summer. Crews will replace tracks in the City Terminal Zone between Atlantic Terminal and East New York, renew third rails on the Babylon Branch between Amityville and Babylon and install signal infrastructure on the Montauk Branch between Babylon and Sayville.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City today announced a new multi-year agreement with Schneider National Inc., a premier multimodal provider of transportation, intermodal and logistics services, to provide new single-line intermodal transportation service on CPKC’s north-south corridor connecting the United States and Mexico.

GCRTA Board Members Approve Request to Purchase New Rail Cars
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) Board Members unanimously voted to approve the Rail Car Replacement Team’s recommendation of Siemens Mobility Incorporated as the preferred vendor to replace their aging rail fleet during the April 18, 2023, GCRTA Board meeting.

Brightline Unveils Orlando Passenger Rail Station
Brightline unveiled its highly anticipated Brightline Orlando Station at Orlando International Airport (MCO). With Brightline’s signature yellow and spacious lounges, the station is the perfect backdrop for a new era of passenger rail that will connect two of the fastest growing regions in the state: Central and South Florida. Brightline also announced that Orlando ticket sales will launch in May for future dates, with one-way fares starting at $79 for SMART and $149 for PREMIUM. SMART fare bundles for families of four will be available for less than $199 one way.

CSX Corp. Announces First Quarter 2023 Results
CSX Corp. announced first quarter 2023 operating income of $1.46 billion compared to $1.28 billion in the prior year period. Net earnings of $987 million, or $0.48 per share, compared to $859 million, or $0.39 per share, in the same period last year.

Reading & Northern to Kick Off 2023 Passenger Train Excursions from Reading Outer Station
The Reading & Northern Railroad is set to begin another busy season of all-day passenger excursions from its Reading Outer Station, located at 3501 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA 19605. While rail excursions will operate to Jim Thorpe, there will also be alternative excursions to Pottsville

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending April 15, 2023
The Association of American Railroads (AAR)reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending April 15, 2023. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 468,197 carloads and intermodal units, down 4.4 percent compared with the same week last year.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced Metro-North Railroad reached record pandemic-era ridership yesterday, April 18, with 194,549 riders, or 74% of the pre-pandemic average.

INDIANA RAIL EXCURSIONS RETURN THIS YEAR
Following a successful season of memorable events and recent recognition as Indiana’s “Best New Experience” from the Indiana Tourism Association, a 1940s-era railroad attraction has expanded its calendar of excursions in Northeast Indiana, Southeast Michigan, and Northwest Ohio for 2023. Operated by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and the Indiana Northeastern Railroad Company, the Indiana Rail Experience has events planned between May and December, including steam-powered fall color tours, Christmas train rides, and a hands-on Indiana Rail Camp for young adults and railroad fans
