Amtrak Celebrates Completion of New Baltimore Platform Construction
Amtrak representatives and stakeholders gathered with state, local and federal officials for a ribbon cutting to inaugurate a newly constructed boarding platform at Baltimore Penn Station. The new platform is scheduled to begin serving trains this spring. This project is part of Amtrak’s overall redevelopment of Baltimore Penn Station, a $150 million investment to improve customer experience and grow passenger rail.

Norfolk Southern, BLET, and SMART-TD Partner with FRA to Launch Groundbreaking C3RS Pilot Program
Norfolk Southern Corporation, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Division (SMART-TD), in partnership with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), announced Monday their joint participation in an FRA Confidential Close Call Reporting System (C3RS) pilot program designed to enhance railroad safety.

Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro to Propose Major Increase in State Funding for Public Transit in 2024-25 Budget
Today, Governor Josh Shapiro announced that his 2024-25 budget proposal will include his plan for the first increase in the state share of public transit funding in over a decade. Governor Shapiro’s proposal will increase the state share of public transit funding by 1.75% – a $282.8 million investment, and nearly $1.5 billion in new state funding over five years, in transit systems that Pennsylvanians rely on in his 2024-25 budget proposal.

MTA Announces First Round of Subway Stations to Undergo Re-NEW-Vation Enhancements in 2024
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that New York City Transit (NYCT) will complete upgrades, repairs, and deep cleanings at 13 subway stations in the first quarter of 2024. This is part of NYCT’s Re-NEW-vation Program which utilizes planned service outages to perform station-wide repairs, enhancements, and deep cleanings.

Norfolk Southern Reports Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2023 Results
Norfolk Southern Corporation announced Friday its fourth quarter and full-year 2023 financial results. For the quarter, income from railway operations was $808 million and diluted earnings per share were $2.32. These fourth quarter results include a $150 million charge associated with the incident in Eastern Ohio inclusive of $76 million in insurance recoveries.

NJ Transit Reallocates Federal Funding to Support Critical Resiliency Projects
NJ TRANSIT, with the approval of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), is redirecting $503 million dollars in federal grant funding to support vital resiliency infrastructure improvements at Hoboken Terminal, County Yard in New Brunswick, and the Raritan River Bridge. This funding, which includes the 25% local share, was originally allocated to NJ TRANSIT’s TransitGrid Microgrid Central Facility (MCF) in Kearny.
