Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending June 24, 2023
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 24, 2023. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 469,453 carloads and intermodal units, down 3.2 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending June 24 were 222,431 carloads, down 0.4 percent compared with the same week in 2022, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 247,022 containers and trailers, down 5.5 percent compared to 2022.

Railroads Reach Agreement to Create New Direct Connection and Corridor Linking Mexico, Texas and the U.S. Southeast
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), CSX Corporation (CSX) and Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) today announced they have reached agreements that when completed will create a new direct CPKC-CSX interchange connection in Alabama.

New York Governor Hochul, Elected Officials and Railroad Partners Unite on Vision for Penn Station Modernization Plan
New York Governor Kathy Hochul, local elected officials, and railroad partners announced their united support for a vision of Penn Station Reconstruction. This announcement comes as the MTA and its railroad partners issued a Notice to Proceed to kick off preliminary design on a plan to transform the existing Penn Station into a world-class commuter and intercity transit hub.

SEPTA Annual Trolley Tunnel Maintenance Blitz
Beginning Friday, July 7, 2023, at 10:00PM and continuing through Monday, July 24 at 5:00AM, SEPTA forces will work around the clock tackling critical track and power maintenance and upgrades, station upgrades and painting, tile replacement, and maintenance work; and intensive tunnel, track area, and station cleaning as part of the 2023 Trolley Tunnel Blitz.
