AAR Reports Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending July 5, 2025
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending July 5, 2025. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 443,049 carloads and intermodal units, up 5.0 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending July 5 were 204,513 carloads, up 4.8 percent compared with the same week in 2024, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 238,536 containers and trailers, up 5.2 percent compared to 2024.

Roundhouse Contractor & Groundbreaking Set
The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of General Services (DGS) recently announced that eciConstruction of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania will be the general contractor for the construction of a roundhouse exhibit building at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

N&W 611 Returns to Mainline Excursions
The Virginia Scenic Railway announced today that a joint venture between the Virginia Scenic Railway, The Virginia Museum of Transportation, Inc., the Steam Railroading Institute, and the Virginia Mechanical Preservation Society will bring the famed Norfolk & Western Class J No. 611 steam locomotive back into service for a limited series of passenger excursions this fall.

MTA Receives Top Safety and Security Awards from American Public Transportation Association
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced the Long Island Railroad (LIRR), Metro-North Railroad, and New York City Transit (NYCT) have won American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Gold awards for safety and security initiatives. These awards, named as Gold Awards for the top award, recognized transit agencies for proactive and innovative safety and security programs.

Amtrak Mardi Gras Service starting August 18
Tickets are now available for new twice-daily Amtrak intercity train service starting Aug. 18 between Mobile, Ala., and New Orleans, along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The new state-sponsored Amtrak Mardi Gras Service will offer convenient morning and evening departures from both cities – plus a promotion to introduce Amtrak Guest Rewards to the region.
