Brightline West Breaks Ground
Brightline West officially broke ground. on April 22nd, on the nation’s first true high-speed rail system which will connect Las Vegas to Southern California. The 218-mile system will be constructed in the middle of the I-15 and is based on Brightline’s vision to connect city pairs that are too short to fly and too far to drive.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending April 13, 2024
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending April 13, 2024. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 466,463 carloads and intermodal units, up 1.5 percent compared with the same week last year.

SEPTA Releases Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Operating & Capital Budgets: Safe, Clean & Secure
SEPTA is proposing a total budget of $2.6 billion for Fiscal Year 2025 – a $1.74 billion Operating Budget and $922.8 million Capital Budget. For the first time, the Authority’s Operating and Capital Budget Proposals are being presented as an integrated document on a modern web platform, which is ADA compliant to ensure that people with visual or hearing impairments can navigate SEPTA’s budget data.

Ontario Expanding GO Train Service Across the Greater Toronto Area
The Ontario government is moving ahead with the largest GO train service expansion in more than a decade, adding more than 300 trips per week on the Milton, Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Kitchener and Stouffville lines. The 15 per cent increase in weekly trips will give commuters more choice to get where they need to go faster.

Rob Free Appointed as 42nd President of MTA Long Island Rail Road
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Chair and CEO Janno Lieber appointed Rob Free as the 42nd President of the Long Island Rail Road. Free served as LIRR’s Acting President for the last six months. He began his career with the railroad as a station cleaner 31 years ago, rising through the ranks to become Chief Transportation Officer and Senior Vice President of Operations before becoming President.

Amtrak NEC Track Improvements will affect MARC Penn Line Service
Upcoming Amtrak construction projects along the heavily-traveled Northeast Corridor between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. will impact MARC Penn Line service beginning on April 29. Amtrak’s planned construction work will require complete track closures from 11:15 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and is expected to continue through November 2024.
