AAR Reports Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending November 9, 2024
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending November 9, 2024. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 519,115 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.5 percent compared with the same week last year.

SEPTA Announces Major Fare Increase Proposal for Jan. 1
With no prospect of a statewide solution to help fund the everyday operating expenses of public transportation systems, SEPTA today announced a new fare increase proposal that would see rates jump by more than 20% across all modes and methods of payment. Combined with a more affordable fare proposal already being considered for adoption by the SEPTA Board this month, customers would see fares climb by nearly 30% starting Jan. 1, 2025.

Grand Central Terminal’s Halls Are Decked as Dazzling Holiday Fair Returns
Officials from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced the opening of the Grand Central Holiday Fair. The officials were joined by Holiday Fair merchants, traditional Costa Rican dancers, and representatives from the Costa Rica Tourism Board, which is sponsoring the holiday fair.

Schneider launches new Intermodal Service between the Southeast U.S. and Mexico
Schneider is set to launch a new Intermodal service providing continuous rail service between points in Mexico and Texas and points in the Southeastern United States. Service on the new route will begin in December.

RJD America LLC has announced that it has purchased the legendary Chesapeake & Ohio 614 steam locomotive from the American Freedom Train Foundation, Inc. With a firm commitment to preserving railroad heritage, RJD America LLC will invest substantial resources to restore the locomotive and its auxiliary tender at the esteemed Strasburg Rail Road Mechanical Services.

OmniTRAX Adds Third P&G Manufacturing Plant to National Rail Network
OmniTRAX, a comprehensive supply chain, industrial development, and logistics solutions partner has been selected as the dedicated switching partner for P&G Manufacturing Company’s Lima, Ohio laundry care factory. The infrastructure affiliate of The Broe Group, OmniTRAX operates 28 railroads and provides industrial switching services to ports, industrial parks, and industry leaders across the country. The new rail agreement, beginning November 1, 2024, marks the third P&G manufacturing plant served by the OmniTRAX network.

MTA Unveils New Modern Metro-North Locomotives
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), this past Friday, unveiled new state-of-the-art 4,200-horsepower locomotives that will upgrade and replace Metro-North Railroad’s existing fleet of locomotives used for trains serving Poughkeepsie, Southeast, Danbury and Waterbury. Known by the model number SC42-DM, the new locomotives will provide customers with more reliable service and will be friendlier to the environment.

Empire Service Schedule Changes
Amtrak will maintain the vast majority of train service through the remaining tunnels by closing one tube at a time during construction, allowing Amtrak, LIRR and NJ TRANSIT service to continue with a few service changes. Amtrak and the railroad partners have and will continue close coordination to mitigate service impacts.
