AAR Reports Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending May 17, 2025
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending May 17, 2025. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 490,775 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.4 percent compared with the same week last year.

NJT Announces Tentative Agreement with Locomotive Engineers Union
Governor Phil Murphy and NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri announced a tentative agreement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen (BLET), ending a three-day rail stoppage. Regular weekday train service will resume with the start of the service day on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, as it takes approximately 24 hours to inspect and prepare tracks, rail cars and other infrastructure before returning to full scheduled service. Contingency plans, including bus service from the four regional Park & Rides, will be in place and operating on Monday, May 19, 2025. NJ TRANSIT will continue to deploy customer ambassadors at stations and Park & Ride locations to assist customers as train service restarts.

Tentative NJT Agreement Reached
NJ TRANSIT and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen (BLET) have announced a tentative agreement. NJT Locomotive Engineers on Strike:
After 15-hours of non-stop contract talks today, no agreement on a wage increase was reached this evening between the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) and NJ Transit managers. NJ Transit managers walked out of the talks shortly before 10 p.m. and through their actions have forced a strike despite the transit agency having the funds for a raise.

Chestnut Hill East Bridge Rehabilitation Program
SEPTA will rehabilitate five bridges along the Chestnut Hill East service line beginning in June 2025 through August 2025, between Wayne Junction in Germantown (Nicetown-Tioga) and Cresheim Valley Drive in Northwest Philadelphia.
