CSX Corp. Announces Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2024 Results
CSX Corp. today announced fourth quarter 2024 operating income of $1.11 billion compared to $1.32 billion in the prior year period. Net income was $733 million, or $0.38 per diluted share, compared to $882 million, or $0.45 per diluted share, in the same period last year. Results for the fourth quarter include a pre-tax, non-cash goodwill impairment charge of $108 million. Total volume of 1.58 million units for the quarter was 1% higher compared to fourth quarter 2023.

AAR Reports Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending January 18, 2025
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending January 18, 2025. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 500,160 carloads and intermodal units, up 25.9 percent compared with the same week last year.

Norfolk Southern Reports more than $4.3 billion in Industrial Development Activity in 2024
In 2024, Norfolk Southern Corporation customers advanced 149 industrial development projects, representing $4.3 billion in investment for new or expanded facilities on Norfolk Southern or a short line partner’s lines. Of these, 65 projects reached completion and began shipping with Norfolk Southern in 2024, representing $1.2 billion in investment and 1,700 jobs.

Presidential Emergency Board Releases Report on NJT Offer
NJ TRANSIT announced today that Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) 252 has issued its report, which followed last summer’s PEB 251 report, declaring the agency’s Final Offer as the most reasonable proposal in the ongoing labor negotiations. The National Mediation Board (NMB) expects to publish the full report on Wednesday, January 22. The PEB expressed its hope that the report will assist both parties in reaching a voluntary resolution to the dispute.

VPRA Selects Construction Partner for Long Bridge-South Package
The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) announced the selection of the Long Bridge Rail Partners – a joint venture comprised of Trumbull Corp., Fay, S&B Construction, and Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. – as construction partner for the Long Bridge Project-South Package. VPRA separated the Long Bridge Project, a new two-track bridge across the Potomac River, into two procurements, a North Package and a South Package. The North Package was awarded to Skanska/Flatiron Joint Venture in December 2023.
