Amtrak and PENNDOT To Restore One Daily Keystone Roundtrip To New York
In coordination with state partners at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, beginning Monday, July 6, Amtrak is partially restoring full-length Keystone Service (New York – Philadelphia – Harrisburg) with one roundtrip between Harrisburg and New York in response to anticipated increased demand. Keystone Service train 640 will operate through to New York and train 653 will originate in New York and operate through to Harrisburg.

News sources have indicated that Pan Am Railways is for sale. Owner Timothy Mellon combined Maine Central with Boston & Maine into Guilford Transportation Industries in 1983, rebranded as Pan Am Railways in 2008.

NJ Transit Announces Major PTC Milestone Achievement:
NJ TRANSIT has advanced its Positive Train Control (PTC) program into the Extended Revenue Service Demonstration (ERSD) phase. The achievement follows successful completion of the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) requirement to perform 384 error-free test runs in the demonstration area between Denville and Summit.

New Rotary Car Dumper System for CSX’s Curtis Bay Yard
Metso has been awarded a contract for the design, supply and installation of a railroad car dumper system for CSX Transportation in the USA. The new Twin Cage Tandem Rotary Car Dumper System will be used for the unloading of coal from railroad cars at the CSX Curtis Bay Export Terminal, located in Baltimore, Maryland.

VIA Rail Canada Reports Record Ridership in 2019
With a record breaking five million passengers travelling by train in 2019, VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) announced today that it recorded its highest annual ridership in the last three decades. This represents a 5.5 % increase in passengers compared to 2018.

Amtrak Starts Construction To Increase Capacity at Washington Union Station
A major construction project that will increase rail capacity is underway at Washington Union Station, the second busiest terminal in the U.S. The project is among other improvements to upgrade and enhance the customer experience at the historic transportation hub.

SEPTA Ready to Ramp Up Regional Rail Service Next Week
With the region preparing to move into the Green Phase of Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 reopening plan, SEPTA will begin increasing service frequency on the Regional Rail system next week. Starting Monday, June 29, Regional Rail will run hourly weekday service on most lines, with the Airport and Paoli/Thorndale Lines operating every 30 minutes throughout the day.

Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending June 20, 2020
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 20, 2020. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 457,278 carloads and intermodal units, down 12.9 percent compared with the same week last year.

NJ Transit’s Full Weekday Schedule Returns July 6
Beginning Monday, July 6th, NJ TRANSIT will operate full weekday service for rail and light rail providing added capacity to improve distancing on board vehicles, which aligns with “The Road Back”, New Jersey’s roadmap for restoring economic health through public health. Bus service has been operating on a regular weekday schedule since Monday, June 8.
