Rail Traffic for the Week Ending February 13, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending February 13, 2021. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 480,483 carloads and intermodal units, up 0.3 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending February 13 were 211,420 carloads, down 7 percent compared with the same week in 2020, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 269,063 containers and trailers, up 6.9 percent compared to 2020.

Allegheny Valley Railroad Company (AVR), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Carload Express, Inc., received its first rail shipments at its new Glenwood Transload Terminal in Pittsburgh, PA last week. This facility features a 40-Ton capacity Mi-Jack™ TraveLift® traveling gantry crane that can load and unload multiple railcar spots directly to truck or to ground storage.

VIA Rail Reaches Tentative Agreement With Unifor
VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) has reached tentative agreements for a two-year contract renewal of the collective agreements with Unifor, the union representing more than 2,400 VIA Rail employees in stations, on board trains, in maintenance centres and administrative offices.

Solar Farm Designed to Lower SEPTA’s Carbon Footprint Now Operational
A stride in decarbonization in Pennsylvania was made recently with the commercial operation of a 17.5 megawatt solar farm in Franklin County, Pa. The project, Elk Hill Solar 2, developed under a power purchase agreement between the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and Lightsource bp, is helping advance energy and sustainability priorities for both SEPTA and the Commonwealth. The solar farm was developed, and is owned and operated by Lightsource bp.

MBTA Announces Names of New Stations as Part of Green Line B Branch Station Consolidation Project
The MBTA today announced that the new stations constructed during the upcoming B Branch Station Consolidation project will be called Babcock Street Station and Amory Street Station. This station modernization project will consolidate four B Branch stops (BU West with St. Paul Street and Pleasant Street with Babcock Street) into two fully accessible, brand new stations. With longer platforms and protection from the roadway, the consolidated stations will improve safety and save time for riders traveling on Commonwealth Ave.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending February 6, 2021. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 495,815 carloads and intermodal units, up 2.2 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending February 6 were 226,393 carloads, down 2.5 percent compared with the same week in 2020, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 269,422 containers and trailers, up 6.4 percent compared to 2020.
