Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern Merger Proposal Receives Required Mexican Regulatory Approvals
Canadian Pacific Railway Limited and Kansas City Southern announced that they have received the required regulatory pre-transaction control approvals from the Mexican Federal Economic Competition Commission and the Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute for the previously announced proposed combination of KCS and CP.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul yesterday joined elected officials and leaders from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to tour the site of the Second Avenue Subway expansion that would extend the Second Avenue line to 125th St in East Harlem.

Canadian Pacific Reopens B.C. Rail Corridor Tuesday
Canadian Pacific announced that it would reopen its railway between Kamloops, B.C. and Vancouver by mid-day Tuesday, Nov. 23. Crews have worked around the clock after the Nov. 14 atmospheric river rain storm in British Columbia, where nearly 200 millimetres of rain fell over two days in some locations. Thirty locations across CP’s Thompson and Cascade subdivisions were damaged with 20 resulting in significant loss of infrastructure.

Washington Metro Will Maintain Reduced Rail Service Levels Through Year End
Washington Metro customers can expect to see current (reduced) rail service levels through December 31, Metro announced today. With no timeline established to return the 7000-series fleet in the interest of safety, and 6000-series railcars awaiting parts due to global supply chain challenges, incremental service improvements will be made during December as parts arrive for older model railcars.

Amtrak To Invest $16 Million Toward Johnstown Station Improvements
As part of the Johnstown Iron-to-Arts Corridor Project, Amtrak is investing more than $16 million into the Johnstown Station, served by the PennDOT supported Pennsylvanian route (operating daily between New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh), as part of the ADASP (Americans with Disabilities Act Stations Program) and State of Good Repair Funding.

On November 17, 2021, the Ohio Rail Development Commission approved a grant of up to $687,622.50 to replace rail on a portion of the Napoleon Defiance and Western Railway’s (NDW) line east of Defiance, Ohio.

MBTA Online Commuter Rail Schedules to Display Typical Seat Availability for Each Train
The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the MBTA’s operating partner for commuter rail, announced that online train schedules at mbta.com/commuterrail will now display ridership information for all trains. In combination with more frequent commuter rail service throughout the day, providing insight into typical seat availability will allow passengers to better plan their travel and make adjustments according to their preferences.

Rail Traffic for the Week Ending November 13, 2021
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending November 13, 2021. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 502,613 carloads and intermodal units, down 4.7 percent compared with the same week last year.
